Christmas With Shellie

This year I’ve been spending a lot of time with Panasonic kitchen appliances and developing recipes for their breadmakers, rice cookers and combination ovens. It’s amazing how many things you can do with a rice cooker other than just cooking rice! I already knew the combination ovens were great things to have in a kitchen though, especially on Christmas Day when you have the entire family coming over and sometimes one oven just isn’t enough.

Below are six of my recipe inspirations for Christmas Day. There are links to each of the full recipes on the Ideas Kitchen website along with videos on how to make the magic!

Bread Roll Wreath

Fresh bread is such a great treat for your guests, and super easy to make with the help of a breadmaker to knead and rise the dough. I recommend making this on Christmas day, but these rolls are still good the day after, so if you need to save time, make them the night before and keep them in an airtight container.

Orange & Honey Glazed Ham Leg

There’s no ham quite like a glazed ham, served warm or at room temperature. The tangy sweetness of the glaze, caramelised and melting into the rendered fat. You can make this the night before and keep it in the fridge if you are pressed for time on Christmas Day.

Carrot & Chickpea Salad

Roasted carrots but with a few extra trimmings. An easy winner to satisfy the table.
Make this one on Christmas Day, served warm or at room temperature.

Potato & Egg Salad

There’s something absolutely satisfying about the mix of mayonnaise and mustard, dressing the starchy goodness of potatoes. Don’t worry about over cooking things on the stove, this is a great recipe to take advantage of your rice cooker!
Can be made in advance, just add the eggs, onions and parsley just before serving. Add bacon if you wish too!

Christmas Berry Compote

Why have one dessert for Christmas when you can have two! Our Panasonic breadmaker has a special mode to turn frozen berries into a delicious treat. You can also use this compote to dress up your pavlova if you so choose.
Compote can be made a couple of days in advance, store in an airtight container in the fridge.

Pavlova with Mango and Raspberries

I used to get stressed out by pavlova, because I never knew what the real temperature was in that old oven with the wonky seal. These combination ovens not only offer a range of cooking modes, but they offer genuine accuracy for consistent cooking. Is there any better finish to Christmas dinner than a perfect pavlova?
Make this the night before so it can cool in the oven overnight.
