I thought I’d share a small selection of photos taken on a recent photoshoot for new cafe Maria. Josh & Omar, the team behind Lorna Cafe in Ferntree Gully (named after Josh’s grandmother), have expanded their operation further up the road and opened Maria (named after Omar’s grandmother). Having lived out this way most of my life, it’s really good to see such great food and inner city cafe vibes make it way out to this area. 

Situated opposite the Upwey train station, it’s a very accessible cafe for all, and a great spot to refuel for after you tackle the 1000 steps. A great selection of savoury and sweet dishes, vegan options and a great spot for just for a cake and coffee; I can highly recommend the signature cookie! 

Chilli Scramble – Grilled tortilla, jalapeño oil scrambled eggs, chickpeas, sweetcorn, jalapeño

Huevos Rotos – fried eggs, chorizo ragu, jamon, potatoes, fried bread, sautéed spinach, avocado lime crema, tomato salad, marinated feta, olive oil

mascarpone

Croquettes Benedict – panko crumbed sweet potato and chorizo croquettes, oaxaca cheese, red capsicum jam, poached eggs, hollandaise

Brisket Taco – corn tortilla, pulled beef brisket, sweet potato, refried black beans, oaxaca cheese, guacamole, corn, salsa verde

Fried Chicken Burger – Southern fried chicken, jamon aioli, lettuce, toasted bun, coriander, fried potatoes

 
Berry Smoothie Bowl – mixed berries, coconut, banana, açaí, chia, sugared hazelnuts
