GoodFood.com.au & Lamington Cupcakes

When I have down time at work, you’ll usually find me on The Age’s website attempting to catch up on world events, but if there is a food article, you can be sure I’ll be reading that. I noticed that it had changed to GoodFood.com.au somewhat recently, which is an extension of the print section of Epicure. It’s essentially a one-stop destination for any food-lover, full of recipes, reviews and foodie news.
I would often be roped in by the pretty pictures, including recipes by top chefs such as Jill Dupleix, Neil Perry, Karen Martini and Frank Camorra. I have numerous print outs, and bookmarks of recipes I found on there, so it was time to get cooking!
I decided to try the lamington cupcake recipe over the weekend. I’ve made lamington cupcakes before, so was keen to see how these compared, as they looked SO much better on the website.
They were so easy to make, and boy, can I tell you; they tasted so much like lamingtons it was heavenly…. and to be honest, I think they look way cuter than a square lamy!
I found the recipe made way more frosting than you’ll need, but I find that with absolutely every single cupcake recipe I’ve ever made. Either make a double batch of cupcakes, half the icing recipe … or find mouths to help you lick the bowl!

Whilst I paired my lamington cupcakes with a cuppa tea, I was wishing I could have it with one of the hot chocolate listed in their Top chocs make a cup runneth over article, which lists Melbourne’s top hot chocolates. I had no idea there was a cafe in Black Rock where you can order a hot chocolate with a hint of licorice or cherry ripe! I need to schedule in a trip on a weekend where I’m not doing anything…. STAT!! There is also a hot chocolate and cheese option… that has my curious mind going mental. Heck, I want to try all the places and hot chocolate listed!
The website also features restaurant review and news of the local dining scene, just like Epicure, as well as wine guides and reviews, the main thing that will suck you into hours of clicking away is the pretty pictures! It features galleries of themes school lunches, vegetarian dishes, gluten free options, etc that make it easy to navigate to find just what you are looking for, and if you don’t know what you are looking for, you’ll find inspiration pretty quickly!

Ha! I printed that lamington cupcake recipe when it first appeared on the Good Food website, but am yet to make it. You have inspired me to get baking this weekend.

Ohhh these are the ones you were making over the weekend and wouldn’t tell us over Instagram hehe they look SOOOOOO good! I love love love the styling! I’m so going to have to make these asap! Cuz I’ve never been able to make lamingtons properly lol they just crumble and end up a mess 😛 so I think making lamington cupcakes are a better choice!

Oh those cupcakes look so good. They look even better at 3:44pm whilst I’m sitting at work craving something sweet!!
I think I’d like to try making these haloumi and zucchini fritters (http://www.goodfood.com.au/good-food/cook/recipe/haloumi-and-zucchini-fritters-20130314-2g2nj.html). My fave cheese is haloumi, zucchini is one of my fave vegetables, fritters implies that it’s all deep fried, so how could it possibly be anything but delicious?!
Oh, and I’d love the Good Food Guide for Melbourne!!
