Ms G’s
Ms G’s would have to be one of the coolest new places around.
It got to the last day of our three day stay in Sydney, and we were both feeling miserable and exhausted from cramming in as much as possible, and we were just trying to take it easy. We had a look what was left on our list, and after eating our way through the Westfield food court (post to come), wondering around aimlessy, and catching a ferry just for the sake of it, we found ourselves on a train to Ms G’s.
The first I heard of Ms G’s was on Masterchef, when Dan Hong brought out the amazing looking pandan chiffon cake challenge. I didn’t really know what to expect from the restaurant, but boy was I blown away.
We entered via the bar, and we were given a choice of sitting upstairs or downstairs. I couldn’t decide as both looked like good places to sit, but I eventually settled on sitting upstairs. It was light, bright and had a great atmosphere. With the floor to ceiling windows, letting maximum daylight in, it was a food bloggers lighting dream. There is lots of bamboo plants surrounding the restaurant, making you feel far far away from being in Sydney. The decor and surrounds made me feel like I had stumbled into a bar in the country side of South East Asia; I loved it. With the small view of Sydney still in sight, you still feel like you are civilization 😛
Given we were still full, we decided to get a few things to share, pandan cake was a must!
Simon had recommended the pork sliders, and it was seriously love at first bite. Why did we only order 1 to share? We contemplated ordering another one, or one of the chicken katsu, but decided we would see how full we got first. I need the recipe for the amazing sauce in this so I can try and make it at home… for now I’ll keep dreaming and remembering how good it was….. <3
Nigel’s famous wok fried lamb noodles – $18
We both picked the wok tossed lamb noodles as another dish to try. Whilst they were topped with a lot of herbs, I really enjoyed having mint and coriander with every bite. It made for the perfect balance of flavours, along with lots of chilli sauce of course 😉 A great wok flavour, I’d also happily have the recipe for this one.
Pandan chiffon cake, strawberries, coconut sorbet – $12
The absolute favourite that had us fighting for the last mouthful was the pandan cake. At first Hamish was a bit scared by the tapioca pearls, but after his first bite, couldn’t get enough of them. The dish is absolutely perfect. The pandan cake is warm, and drizzled with a palm sugar syrup, the coconut sorbet is smooth, refreshing and full of flavour, with the addition of strawberries and tapioca pearls… just genius. I MUST recreate this at home!!
Service was fantastic, not in your face, but instead very helpful. This is absolutely on my list of places to return to when I visit Sydney next. I’ll be trying some of those packaged drinks that require the bubble tea straws on the table, more pork min bah and the other desserts which I’ve seen on other people’s blogs, like “Stoner’s Delight” doughnut ice cream, chocolate, rice bubble, pretzel, peanut brittle, marshmallow….. *drool*

Nice review. We also spent a few days in Sydney about 2 weeks ago. I love the dining options available compared to where I live here in Saudi Arabia! I used to overnight in Potts Point all the time when I was still a flight attendant, oh how I miss thee!

Ooh I love this place. In fact I was there last Thursday night! I love the atmosphere and the food is always great. I love the fried baby chicken and the Stoners Delight too.

And right now, I’m eating yoghurt mixed with milo and strawberry jam. Looking at that pandan dessert.
In other words, my life is the colour of sadness.

Ms G’s is great – I just wish the queues weren’t so huge as I’d go back here time and time again. Due for a revisit and more of the tasty Banh Mi asap I think.

You “tourists” get around to all the places where I haven’t as a local! I’ve been avoiding Ms G’s so far due to the crowds/queues but I keep reading and seeing enticing photos like this. Perhaps something for me to do on a weekday off work.

lol! happens here in Melbourne, I haven’t been to the trendy places here yet! We went about 3ish on a Sunday, no queue at all!

I’m putting this on my list the next time I visit Sydney! FYI they have the recipe for the mini banh mi in Gourmet Traveller (magazine and online).
