Following on from the post on
Smith + Singleton, chef and restauranteur Paul Dunlop’s other scrumptious place is GG. I remember walking past on one occasion, but must have had my head so engrossed in my phone, I didn’t peer into the windows to see what it was all about. GG is truly a hidden gem in East Melbourne, open for lunch and dinner Monday to Sunday. The special thing on Sundays is known as the Sunday Pork and Pinot. If you enjoy pork slow cooked on a wood-fired rotisserie and pinot noir, this is the deal you have been looking for. Every Sunday evening from 5:30pm, for Pork and Pinot – bring a bottle of pinot noir from your cellar to enjoy with pork cooked on our famous rotisserie with no corkage!
If you’re not into the pork and pinot match that’s no problem – bring any sort of wine you like!
The fine print – one bottle per table, offer valid on Sundays only (excluding Mother’s Day) and no corkage charged only when the rotisserie is ordered.
GG opened in February 2013, in the heart of East Melbourne. With lovely views over the picturesque Fitzroy Gardens, GG is a bustling, bistro-style restaurant and bar. Dark timbers and industrial metals make this place feel warm and cosy, with large windows providing a great view to watch the world go by. GG has a centrally located bar, and a private event space. With it’s European inspired menu, in particular French, Italian, Spanish and Greek; it focuses on rotisserie meats, wood fired pizzas, pastas, as well as other small and large beautifully plated dishes. I say you should definitely leave room for their decadent desserts too.

GG has a very impressive wine list and bar, headed up by young gun Sam Devitt. But what’s in a name?
“The name GG was inspired by a number of different elements, including being close to the ”G” – the Melbourne Cricket Ground – and also co-owner Rocky Veneziano’s grandfather Giuseppi. It was also ideal as the name is non specific to a food or country, which ties in nicely with their broader European menu concept.”
