Mars Bar Cheesecake

I tweeted last week a few weeks ago; cassata or mars bar cheesecake? There was an overwhelming response for the mars bar cheesecake to be made.

It was relatively easy to make as far as cheesecakes go, but I couldn’t help think how sweet the end product would be. Along with the mars bars, I had to add melted chocolate and butterscotch sauce (which is essentially just sugar). I happily shared the leftovers with people at work, family and even the lady we get our daily coffees from!

We each took a bite, and whilst we all thought it was really good, we couldn’t help but think how bad it was for us. Luckily we only had a small slice, as not to feel morbidly obese. It resulted in us talking about the Heart Attack Grill, and then watching and cringing watching the following youtube video (you have to see it to believe it):

Mars Bar Cheesecake

Get your hands on:
250g plain chocolate biscuits
125g butter, melted
2 tablespoons brown sugar
20g butter, extra
300ml thickened cream
50g milk eating chocolate, chopped finely
3 teaspoons gelatine
1/4 cup (60ml) water
2 x 250g packets of cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup (110g) caster sugar
3 x 60g Mars Bars, chopped finely

Serve it with: A run on the treadmill

1. Blend or process biscuits until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add butter, process until just combined. Press biscuit mixture evenly over base and side of 20cm spring form tin, place on tray; refrigerate about 30 minutes or until firm.

2. Meanwhile, make butterscotch sauce; combine brown sugar, extra butter and 2 tablespoons of the cream in a small saucepan. Stir over low heat, without boiling, until sugar dissolves.

3. Make chocolate sauce; combine chocolate and another 2 tablespoons of the cream in another small saucepan; stir over low heat until chocolate melts.

4. Sprinkle gelatine over the water in small heatproof jug; stand jug in small saucepan of simmering water, stir until gelatine dissolves. Cool 5 minutes.

5. Beat cream cheese and caster sugar in medium bowl with electric mixer until smooth. Beat remaining cream in small bowl with electric mixer until soft peaks form. Stir gelatine mixture into cream cheese mixture with Mars Bars; fold in cream.

6. Pour half of the cream cheese mixture into crumb crust; drizzle half of the butterscotch and chocolate sauces over cream cheese mixture. Pull skewer backwards and forwards through mixture to create marbled effect. Repeat with remaining cream cheese mixture and sauces. Cover cheesecake; refrigerate about 3 hours or until set.

Serves 8.

    I am literally fainting at the thought of so much sugar, I didnt think it could get any more calorific than the scottish nugget of a deep fried mars bar, but this seems more wholesome with all the calcium in the cheese, :-)

    wtf… you eat for free if you weight over 350 lb?! They spread their buns with LARD?!?!! Holy crap, I know this should not surprise me but I can’t help but be horrified.

    And after watching that video, it seems actually kinda healthy to eat this entire delicious cheesecake.

    Beautiful darling! Heavenly. This cheese cake can cause all sorts of happiness… from a sugar hit to acting as a comfort slice. This I must try.

    I would eat a small size of the cake.
    As for the Heart Attack grill, it may be funny to watch but unfortunately there is a dark side to it all and watching the diners they are treating it as a joke whilst compromising their health. As for the doctor (so called), he must have been a proficient doc……….
    A documentary could be made out of it including the after effects!.

    Oh dear… I’m in such a quandary because I know I should say “just a small slice thanks” – but in my smallest ‘true confessions’ voice I’d have to say…. “Umm…., I want a proppa size slice tah” (& I know I could eat it…, all of it…, just watch me)… lol

    You should know better than to think about how much sugar is in a dessert!! We’d never eat anything if we all thought like that! 😛 It looks so decadent!

    Gee!! Shellie what a popular make this Yummy Cake proved to be,
    is a long time since I had a taste of one similar, yours of course looks so much more taste tempting, and lots richer also. So glad all enjoyed it, and I guess they all thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. I reckon it would have to be an awesome ‘Stress Reliever’. Well done.

    p.s. the Heart Attack Grill – hilarious and scary all at once! Is that a real place? If it is, the fact that people who way over 350 pounds can eat there for free…..that is just sooooooo scary and wrong. Where did you find this?

    Mmmm…this looks so good! I love mars bars and I love cheesecakes- it sounds like an awesome combo!! I try not to think about the unhealthiness of the food I make…haha. At least it’s (probably) better than store bought stuff!

      I usually try not to think of the unhealthiness either, but when you are using sugar and all of that, I couldn’t help not to!

    Hehee, you should feed it to people you don’t like / who don’t like you. It’ll have one of two effects –

    1: it might win them over or
    2: They might go into a sugar induced coma!

    I made this last night was DELISH !!
    Question: did you add the three tablespoons of gelatine? I thought it was too much and added one, but am thinking three may have been needed? CHecking if it was a typo or not! TIA

      Oh glad it worked out so well for you! I just checked the recipe and it does say 3 TEAspoons. oops!! Must have been one of those days when I was typing it up. I’ll fix it now, but good on you for adjusting it!! Thanks :)
