Sue’z Delight

FOUND! Good Cendol in Melbourne! …. well the suburbs of Melbourne… Clayton to be specific!

With the menu changing daily, and updates about the menu being released on via their twitter account, there are many opportunities to try a variety of delicious treats from the motherland.

Victor and his wife come from Melaka in Malaysia. Victor also lived in Singapore for quite a number of years, so the ever changing menu is a mixture of Malaysian and Singaporean food. Victor is more than happy to have a chat, and is helpful with explaining the dishes.

Mui Fun

I’m pretty sure this was my first taste of mui fun. It is, as Victor explained to me; the same sauce as sar hor fun, but with rice instead of noodles. It kind of reminded me of Mum’s awesome porridge. It was delicious, full of flavour and those crispy fried shallots sprinkled on top provided the perfect contrast of texture. I could have ordered another one and gone home happy.

Penang Char Kuey Teow

You have the option of ordering Penang or Singapore Char Kuey Teow. We went with the Penang version…. level 2 spiciness. I ordered level 5 on my previous visit and it was too hot for me, yet I ate the whole thing. Whilst it is not as good as Strait’s Char Kuey Teow (for my personal tastes), it’s still good and closer to home for me.

Singapore Fried Hokkien Noodle

I enjoyed these with a spritz of lemon juice. I like that it was quite a wet noodle dish, with once again the fried shallots providing a great contrast of texture.

Mee Goreng

This was also level 2 spiciness. Another great dish, delicious, and no shortage of prawns.

Sue’z Delight is definitely a place you to go for the food. Even the owner Victor admits there isn’t much of an atmosphere, it’s just a few simple chairs and tables. People go for the cheap and quality food; and with the constantly changing menu, there is a reason to go back again and again. I’ll definitely be returning, I’ve heard extremely good things about their Har Mee.

Yum mui fun!! They do a similar egg chiffon rice dish at that A1 place in the CBD, it’s actually almost all they do I think. Pretty good, but totally oily. I bet the Monash students will really enjoy this place, being so close to their campus!!

Yum mui fun! They do a similar egg chiffon dish at A1 cafe in the city; in fact, I’m pretty sure that’s all they do. It’s VERY oily but hits the mark (and bloats it too)! And OF COURSE order Penang Char Kuay Teow tsk 😉
